Try this nourishing and delicious bone broth latte recipe for your next healthy pick-me-up any time of the day – with or without coffee! It’s warm, comforting, and made with clean, simple ingredients that will deliver amazing health benefits for your gut, skin, and joints.

Bone broth is a hot health topic lately, and for good reason. Not only is it a foundational ingredient to endless recipes, but it’s loaded with impressive health benefits to nourish and heal your body.
I use homemade bone broth in almost every savory dish imaginable, from using it as the base for soups, sauces, and stews to cooking all our rice, pasta, and grains.
Lately, I’ve ventured into incorporating bone broth into my drinks.
As someone who is sensitive to caffeine, I don’t drink coffee every day. However, some days, I crave a warm and comforting latte as a midday pick-me-up.
Although there are plenty of bone broth latte recipes out there (and they’re great), they’re just doctored-up bone broth in a mug – no coffee.
So I made this bone broth latte that actually tastes like a latte and can be made with or without coffee!
It’s easy to whip up, full of health benefits, and surprisingly delicious (just like a latte). I like that I can enjoy this anytime, day or night, caffeine or no caffeine, and I’m consuming all the healing health benefits of bone broth.
It’s a great way to start your morning and add a healthy twist to your routine cup of joe.
The best part is that it’s a bulletproof coffee recipe. It contains a good amount of protein and healthy fats to fill your belly, keep you satiated, and avoid the caffeine crash later in the day.

What Are The Health Benefits Of Bone Broth?
Bone broth is one of the most nourishing superfoods you can consume. It contains a wide array of nutrients that have a holistic effect on our bodies, supporting and enhancing practically every square inch.
1. Bone broth is one of the best natural sources of collagen and gelatin.
- During the cooking process of bone broth, collagen and gelatin are naturally broken down into a form that is easy for our bodies to digest, absorb, and utilize.
- Collagen and gelatin are critical for maintaining the integrity of our gut lining and promoting better digestion and absorption of other foods and nutrients, especially in those with leaky gut syndrome.
- A collagen-rich diet can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and your risk of developing joint deterioration and discomfort.
2. Bone broth can have a major impact on our joints.
- Glucosamine and chondroitin, two vital components in the structure and functioning of our joints, are naturally abundant in bone broth.
- Many studies have concluded that consuming glucosamine and chondroitin can decrease joint swelling, joint discomfort, and arthritis pain.
3. Bone broth is packed full of amino acids.
- Amino acids (the building blocks of all our proteins) are effective in strengthening our gut lining, lowering our blood pressure, and assisting in wound healing.
- They have been proven to boost your immune system and reduce inflammation in your respiratory tract in times of sickness.
4. Bone broth is the ultimate electrolyte drink.
- Essential electrolytes and minerals, such as potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus (major components of bones) are naturally abundant in bone broth.
- These electrolytes and minerals are necessary for balancing hydration, strengthening bone density, and controlling the functioning of our nerves, heart, and muscles.

Why You’ll Love This Bone Broth Latte
- It’s created for coffee enthusiasts and caffeine-free drinkers alike.
- It takes a few simple ingredients and very little time.
- You can try a wide variety of substitutions or variations for different seasons or diet requirements.
- It’s a delicious way to add a healthy twist to your routine cup of coffee.
Pro Tip: I like to freeze my homemade bone broth in these large ice cube trays. They keep perfect portions of broth ready to go for small and quick recipes like this one.

Ingredients
- Coffee (optional) – Use fresh coffee or espresso (or decaf) brewed using your preferred method. If making this coffee-free, you can omit this entirely or swap it for equal parts bone broth and milk.
- Bone broth – You can buy it in stores, but I can’t recommend it enough to make it yourself at home. Chicken or beef bone broth are the most common options. Chicken bone broth has a milder, lighter flavor, while beef broth has a stronger, richer flavor.
- Whole milk or dairy-free alternative – Look for a milk or dairy-free alternative that is thick and rich to give you the creamiest latte texture. Whole milk, cream, or coconut milk are great options.
- Butter – Making this a bulletproof coffee recipe, butter helps to create a luxurious texture and adds just enough fat to keep you satiated and avoid the caffeine crash later in the day. Coconut oil is a great substitution here.
- Maple syrup (or raw honey) – Naturally high in essential minerals like calcium, zinc, and manganese, maple syrup gives this drink a sweet, caramelized flavor.
- Sea salt – Rich in trace minerals and key electrolytes (magnesium, calcium, and potassium), sea salt helps to balance and enhance the flavors of the other ingredients.
Instructions
1. Brew your coffee or espresso using your preferred method.
2. While your coffee is brewing, combine bone broth, butter, maple syrup, and sea salt in a small saucepan and heat over medium-low heat.
3. Heat and stir the broth mixture until the butter has melted and the mixture is steaming but not boiling.
4. Once it’s steaming, remove from heat, add in the fresh coffee or espresso, and whisk until well combined. Pour into your favorite mug.

5. Using the same saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until it begins to steam. Froth it with an electric milk frother or vigorously whisk it by hand until it’s frothy. (Check out my tips below on the different ways to get your milk extra foamy).

6. Pour frothed milk over the broth mixture, fold it together gently with a spoon, and enjoy.

Tips + Tricks to Making The Best Bone Broth Latte
- Pick a milk or dairy-free alternative that is rich and creamy with the right amount of fat for the silkiest latte texture. I recommend whole milk, cream, coconut milk, or oat milk.
- Heat your milk separately and get it frothy. Here are a few different ways to get foamy milk:
- Before heating the milk, try pouring it into a large jar, screw the lid on tightly, and shake it for 30-60 seconds. Pour your frothed milk into the saucepan to heat and then into your mug.
- While heating your milk in the saucepan, froth it with an electric milk frother or whisk it vigorously by hand, then pour it into your mug.
- After heating the milk, try adding it to a blender and blitzing it for 10-15 seconds before adding it to your mug.
- Bone broth and butter together create a smooth texture and full body flavor. They also add beneficial fats and proteins that will give you energy, keep you satiated, and help avoid the unwanted side effects of caffeine.

Substitutions + Variations
- If making this coffee-free, omit the coffee and simply add a bit more bone broth and milk in equal parts to bulk up the volume. An easy way to add flavor in this case is to mix in a teaspoon of cacao powder (or cocoa powder). Although it still contains some caffeine, it’s much less than that of a full cup of coffee. One teaspoon of cacao powder contains 5 mg of caffeine, while an eight-ounce cup of coffee holds 70-120 mg).
- Substitute milk or cream with any dairy-free alternative you prefer.
- Swap butter with ghee or a vegan-friendly alternative like coconut oil.
- Get playful with the spices and flavorings. Some of my favorite variations:
- Vanilla extract or cacao powder
- Pumpkin pie spice during the fall
- Ground cinnamon and ginger during the Christmas season
- Turmeric and fresh black pepper (super anti-inflammatory effects)
